Things you should know about replacing DLP and LCD lamps
1) As I have previously mentioned in “Buyer Beware”, there are two configurations you can obtain, when you are trying to source a replacement lamp for your TV:
a) The complete lamp housing assembly, which includes the cage that houses the lamp. This is by far the easiest method to choose, when it is time to replace your lamp. The complete assembly usually costs considerably more than the bare lamp.
b) The bare lamp which does not include the lamp housing. This is a less expensive approach but installing the new lamp into the old lamp housing can be rather challenging for some brands.
2) As I have previously mentioned in this section, most vendors have very strict return policies for lamps. Ask about their return policy, before you purchase a lamp. If you break the connector assembly (which can be quite delicate), by over tightening the nut or screw, you have ruined your lamp. Do not waste your time asking for a return authorization. They will not take it back under these circumstances.
3) DO NOT TOUCH the front glass part of the new lamp, regardless of whether you purchased the bare lamp or the complete lamp housing assembly. These lamps are ultra high-pressure technology lamps and produce an extreme amount of heat. If, while installing the lamp, your fingers touch the front glass surface of the lamp, the oil from your skin will transfer to the lamp glass surface and will cause the lamp to fail prematurely. Remember that you should wear plastic gloves while installing the lamp into the old housing.
4) You can extend the life of your lamp by avoiding turning the TV on and off frequently. When you plan to turn your TV off, you should allow for at least thirty minutes of off time, before powering the TV on again. DO NOT connect your TV AC power cord to a switched wall outlet or to a cable / satellite box that has a switched AC outlet. Plug it into a normal wall outlet.
5) When removing from or installing your lamp assembly in your TV, be very careful not to damage or defeat the safety switches that are located inside the lamp-housing cavity.
The staff at ABC Electronics does not recommend that our customers attempt to change a “Bare” lamp. While it is easy to install the complete lamp housing assembly in your TV. The “bare” lamps are considerably more difficult to change, and there is a much greater risk of damaging the new lamp.
